Our first baby for the season -and it's a wren!

Went out to the aviaries this morning and lots of activity from the adult superb wrens around a grassy shrubby area. Sure enough there is a tiny little fluffball :soppy: .

Could only see the one fledgling but it's our first fledgling for the season of any species and the species I thought would be hardest to settle in and get to breed so I'm chuffed.

Dad's broken wing act was kinda funny too.

Excitement was short lived and panic set in when I went in to aviary to add food, closed door, looked for the young and there he was in the crimson chat flight! A gut wrenching lifetime later (but only minutes in reality I'm sure) he was safely back in with mum and dad. Moral of story - never ever have an aviary without any safety door.
