What do you normally use ?

Ive been mixing my own but its costing a fortune to buy bits and pieces off the internet . ...crushed cuttlebone + crushed egg shells + charcoal + shell grit , the ingredients are not the cost its the freight .

Thought I would try one of the off the shelf types .

My mix is the same but I buy bulk Cuttle bone once a year at the bird sale, the 20kg bag of shell grit from local farm centre, the rest I make my self.
I roast a heap of egg shells on the bbq, burn a few logs for charcoal, chuck the lot in a cement mixer with a few medium sized rocks and bag up when finished.

If you are after grit what is wrong with getting some ordinary sand and washing some of the finer parts away.
Then just bake some egg shells and put them in the aviary as cracked, the birds especially Gouldians love to nibble around the edges.
If your birds are in a cage all the time and not an aviary you may have to give them a few extra items.
My birds love working over a set lump of cement mix.

Take a number of buckets, go to an isolated beach, load up boot with buckets of the grittiest sand you can find. Regular annual ritual here.
