I have been reading that you can boil finch, canary seed to give to birds to help feed there babies. As it goes soft and can mix it with egg biscuit.
Can this be done

Boiled seed is an excellent source of food. Whilst it has no individual improvement in nutrition when compared to regular seed it has numerous benefits namely :
1. it is instantly recognisable by all birds as a food source
2. it is softer and easier to process therefore reducing processing time by the parents = more trips to the babies in the same time period
3. as it cools it absorbs fluid - now is the time to add calcium liquids, traceminerals and amino acid supplements
4. it is fast and easy to produce - 15-20 minutes in the microwave. I prefer to let it cool slightly then add supplements and put in the fridge overnight -by morning it has swollen appreciably with the influx of fluids.
5. the boiling process essentially sterilises it without the need for chemicals.

I use it mixed with an egg and biscuit mix and greens.
