We have had vicious attacks a couple of times - first time dad blinded one of his offspring who had become fully coloured. Had to have the young one put down. The other day we had 3 chicks hatch, in a cage with parents and 4 young quail (approx 4 weeks old). found the chicks getting cold on aviary floor, so mum clearly not looking after them. I warmed them up and tried to put back in aviary a few hours later. Mum not the least bit interested, and oone of the older chicks grabbed a baby and tried to toss it out of the nest. So I took them back out and tried to handrear them with no success.
My tip is 1) remove young as soon as visibly sexable (esp males) and 2) take out eggs so they get a break and you don't get flooded with chicks.
Have had no problems selling quail off so far but I do take eggs out for a few weeks at a time as well.

The little one they ganged up on died . Now its just a matter of watching them and taking them out at the right time .
