I think that's Heck's longtail, BB.

Ah ha, can you point me to some pics? When I googled blackthroats I came up with pics that looked exactly the same, guess thats the trouble with the different names species get in different states and countries.

I believe that the parson's (black throat) has a blackish beak and a bigger bib, whereas Hecks is like a normal longtail except for the beak and feet being red rather than yellow.
:mouse:
(btw, my four year old is choosing the smilies).

I don't have any pics of my own to offer, sorry.
I'm sure Mickw and others would be able to help.
:parp:
  (no strong feelings here, the four year old just wants the ones with the red eyes)

Surely that's it second from left. Hecks are normal longtails with red beaks, so the subspecies is represented even if the species isn't (second from right).

True, Nat, but it is the black-throats missing, not the longtails.

OK, so need to clean me glasses :rain: . Pretty hard to tell on my screen but I can see it's a pictorella now that you mention it, there is a fuzzy little bit below the bib.

BB there's a pic here you could "borrow" http://www.hawkesburyfinchclub.com/aust ... rson03.jpg, ask them first though otherwise plenty here http://www.google.com.au/search?q=black ... 80&bih=921
