The cock was YHWBYB the hen is YHPBGB with a white chin spot. The chicks are YHWBYB male and female YHPBYB male and female, YHPBGH(pale/SF) males. So which mutation of yellow is each parent?

You have yellow males as the offspring, therefore the father cannot be Euro yellow unless he is also split for Aus yellow. The mother is almost certainly split for Aus yellow, as indicated by the white spot on her chain (see your other thread).
You can prove this only by another pairing, pair him with a normal hen, the young should be all SF yellow cocks and all Euro yellow hens.

Would love to but unfortunately as it says he WAS a YHWBYB. But is no longer.
Lost him just in the last couple of months.

Hi Finchbreeder,
There are 2 possible answers here.
1. Both parent birds were split for australian Yellow. You should have been able to notice a difference in the appearence of the Aust Yellow young, they would have had a dirty bluish back when they first fledged ?
2. The more likely is that the offspring you are describing as YH-WB-YB are actually single factor YB's who appear double factor because of the white breast.
Without photo's it is hard to be able to judge either way.

All of the Yellow backs. Dad and the kids. Have beautiful clear yellow backs. But have different shades of yellow, from really butter coloured to more wheat like. Will have to get my new camera to work or get Mum to take pics as these are her birds not mine. (This was the cocks 4th season but. Last 2 he just sang to canarys and ignored Gouldians.
But his 1st season he went to a normal PBGB and produced a yellow chick who was weak and died.)

Ok after lots of reading and rereading of modes of inheritance are busy trying to work out what this original cock was. By working back what the young are. But more questions.
I understand that Aust yellow can only be white breasted? And split Aust yellows can be either white or lilac or purple? So the mutation that turns the bird yellow also turns the breast white?
This is my reading. Just want a simple Yes,yes, yes answer or otherwise if I have it wrong an explaination of where I am wrong. Thanks in advance.
