Hi and welcome to the forum.

Two pair of my gouldians still have young in the nest, they must be mad its freezing cold and the rains and winds in the last couple of days......brrrrrr.
I do have half the aviary covered with canvas and a little terracotta heat lamp in there too, and it really makes a difference.

Welcome from another new chum.
I always let the birds decide when its time to pack it in, unless they have been very prolific.
But then I live in a rather warmer climate.
I'm grumbling that its  freezing here now cause its only 16.

Hi & welcome to the forum Tony nice to have another from SA.
My 3 pair of gouldians are still breeding.1 with eggs the others with young.
I have a open large Aviary no roof (over the flight)or heating.
See the pics here http://www.aussiefinchforum.net/viewtop ... &sk=t&sd=a
Looking forward to seeing some pics of your setup.

Thanks for the welcome. Your aviary is so nice Will. I'm too embarassed to show mine as it's really nothing much compared to your setup.

I had a think about my Gouldians today and have come to the conclusion that my setup is not very good for them. I'm going to let them go and get another pair of parrots. I still have my 5 pairs of zebs in the other aviary.

Anyone want 2 pairs of Goulds let me know. 1 pair of black heads and 1 pair of red heads.

Cheers

Tony

Thanks Tony, lots of people keep finches in small cages and do really well with them.
It's more the love of keeping finches.
I don't need any more Goulds maybe put them in the 4 sale post.

Cheers

The problem is that the only place I can keep them is inside cages inside an aviary that houses princess parrots and budgies. I don't think they like the noise and general lack of privacy.

if it were me in your position having to decide. then the princess parrots would be on the move not the gouldians.

I've decided to give it one last shot. I love my Princess Parrots and don't really want to part with them so I'm going to see if the Gouldians will breed in the same aviary as the parrots.

I released the Gouldians this morning into the aviary and straight away I could see how much happier they were, buzzing around and chirping. The parrots generally don't want much to do with them. I then built a shelf unit with individual compartments for extra privacy for each nest box and positioned it high up in the aviary. I might take some pics tomorrow to get some opinions.

I'm now going to leave them be for a few months to see how they get on. Wish me luck!

Cheers

Tony
