Addatives in finch seed mix

I've been using the Trill brand of finch seed mix for a little while now and my Gouldians seem happy and healthy. I do provide additional greens, cuttle bone and the like. Do the additional vitamins etc that are added to this mix make any difference, nutritionally speaking. A number of posts from members on this site suggest that i should change to another brand (Avigrain and a number of others have been suggested) or mix my own. Any suggestions on where i could pick up some no fuss mixed seed in the western suburbs of Melbourne?

Andrews Stockfeed on Sydney Rd, sell avigrain, thats where i buy my seed from, not sure if that is close to you or not?

I beleive western garden birds in hoppers crossing also sell avigrain (not been there myself but heard it on another site)

Trill is exceptional quality seed. Unless its too expensive for the number of birds you have I recommend to stick with it. Any of the bulk seed suppliers' products I've seen (most of them) would be a backward step from Trill quality wise.

The only concern I have with Trill is that the added vitamins and minerals are added via the inclusion of a crumble-like product which is reputed to have a tendency to break up and for the resulsting powder and small particles to settle out toward the bottom of the pack. The same is also assumed to be the case with each production batch. So, as the theory, goes different servings may vary wildly in their vitamin/mineral content depending on whether they came from the top or the bottom of the pack, or whether the pack itself came from the top or the bottom of the production batch.
To be clear, so far as I know, this is only a theory that i have been told and which seems to me to have some logic to it, but I have no proof that it actually occurrs in practice.

I give Trill canary and finch mix as an extra choice to my paired canaries and newly fledged canries as it apprears to have a greater range of seeds to my normal mix. It also contains shellgrit which the birds seem to consume as none is in the residue.

I was also a bit sus on the sand like substance in the bottom of the box. I thought it was sand ( to give weight) and did not realise it was the vitamins and minerals.
