These are some pictures of aus/yellow's and aus/yellow's/clearbacks.
I am putting these pictures on behalf of Tony/tino.
These pictures where sent to Tony by a pioneer in breeding aus yellows and a good friend of tony's.
These pictures are for natamambo to see that there is purple breasted yellows, lilac and clear backs.

to add to this convo bout the Aust yellows haveing purple brests i have personally seen them myself over here in WA. saw them wen i was looking at buying some Aust yellows off this guy he was manly pigeon breeder and just had a aviary bout 4m x 3.5 deep with approx 40 aust yellow and in there was approx 10 purple breast that

It almost seems that the aus yellows with the purple breast don't quite have a full version of the gene, kind like how the splits often show part of the gene. I have seen photos 'southy's' splits where he is breeding them to show larger white spots in the mask. The some masks in the photos above remind me of the photos of southy's birds.

OK, so the issue is the degree to the effect of the gene rather than whether or not all Aus yellows have white breasts. It would be interesting (but perhaps very complex to achieve) to try to determine the factors that influenced the degree to which the gene switches of melanin production. This reinforces what I was saying earlier about the effect of the white breast gene somehow reducing melanin production in the back as well (with a white breasted yellow back generally being lighter than purple breasted yellow back).

Mike Fidler says in his book "The purple, blue, turquoise and black areas of the bird are replaced by white". Clearly it's not that simple - but for those now even more confused those pictures tell the story it seems, ie that an Aus yellow with a non-white breast also has very heavy variegation in the back and so those birds are still identifiable visually.

Don't want to offend anyone. But to my eyes, the Aussie yellows who do not have white chests seem to be "mottled" on the heads and chests, more than they are blue or purple. So Maybe. And this is just a thought. The gene that turns an Aussies back yellow and breast white. Comes in different "for want of a better word" strengths. As I note that those with the cleanest yellow backs also have the whitest chests. What do others think of that as a possability? Comments from some who have birds with the greenish backs? As the backs on all the young whos backs are shades of yellow here are very clean like the 1st pic and nothing like the backs of the "mottled" chests, shown in the other pics.

well to add to my earlier comment ive just been to pick some aust yellows up and these to have the purple breast in it but only half the breast is purple. am charging the camera as i type so later this arvo will take some pics

The bird in the centre is the daughter of this pair. With some of her young ones that resulted with crossing to the YHWBYB (who we suspect of being both Aussie and Euro yellow) Ignore the white effect on her head that was caused by the flash.
Thank goodness mum is a better photographer than me or you would never have got to see these guys.

by looking at the pic to me it is a split aus/yellow
same people think they are pieds but its a split/aus/yellow.
