Sow/Saw typo aside, the OP is correct it would seem.
According to wikipedia, the name 'Milk Thistle' is indeed correctly applied to the purple-flowered plants of the genus Silybum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silybum" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The plant we feed our birds is properly known as the Sow Thistle, genus Sonchus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonchus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And the true Scotch Thistle is different again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotch_thistle" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That would be a NO, not at this stage. They do a lot of looking at it, but appear apprehensive to try it. Will continue to offer it and see if they end up taking to it or not over time.nirep wrote:IMO ,scotch thistle purple flowers.Milk thistle, sow thistle,dandelion yellow flowers.Anyway back to the author maybe they will come back to let us know whether his/her birds actually took to the thistle.
