Earlier there were posts about how to cool or help cool your birds during a heat wave.
Normally my birds get along OK as I am fortunate to have a very good quality water bore.
I am able to flood water my aviaries without any problems then switch to over head sprays.
Yesterday when I went in to an aviary just before midday, there on the floor were 2 scrawny little
Red Faced Parrot Finches at least a week away from fledging,I knew where they came from as they let out
such a noise when it looks like feed time.Any way when I looked up at the box here were 2 more chicks, actually heads
and long necks obviously heat stressed. So I dropped them on the floor with the other 2,luckily I checked the box
as there was a fifth chick smaller than the other 4 so out it went. That evening I pulled all the contents from the box
and put a small amount of fresh material just on the bottom.I collected all the chicks and put them back.
A hanky stuffed in the entrace for a few minutes stopped them from jumping out. Midmorning today 4 on the floor so the
5th joined them.It is just on dark day 2 and all a happily back in their nest box.Maybe the 5 will be out tomorrow.
None look stressed and this time didn't need alot to collect them in a plastic bucket ready for their bed time.
I should point out I can not remember ever having 5 in a clutch before.

I had a superb wren fledge today, it looks a couple of days underdone. Mum has used a finch tunnel nest so just popping it back in was deemed too difficult, I didn't want to handle it. It is mobile (but not flying) and hiding in the bushes and the parents were keeping an eye on it so hopefully it will be OK.

This evening doing my evening check I noticed all 5 young Red Faces snuggled up in a corner of the aviary. All seem to be fully feathered
which is good news.
