Used to have my moxyplus/baycox mixture made up by a gouldian breeder. Decided to buy the moxy and baycox to feel a little indpendent. The moxy arrived 2 days ago but has an expiry date of 5/12. The question is this, there is no way I can use 100ml between now and May at 5mls a treatment. So after May do I toss it out or can I add a fraction more after the use by date and if so what is the depletion rate of the toxicity. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Glad you asked that, coz I bought mine in feb / Mar last year and noticed the other day it has an expiry of 9/11. The painted I gave it to is fine 3 days later, so toxicity wouldn't seem to be an issue but i was wondering about efficacy.

I was told if its kept in the fridge, that can extend the life. Wouldn't like to guess how long for though

Budgiebreeder keeps all her bird meds in the fridge for maximum life and quality. Sometimes looks like a pharmacy.

Bump, we never got an answer to this.

Danny / Myzo / anyone know?

Also does it go off / go toxic or just stop working effectively (and over what time frame?)

From what I was told by the distributors and Virbac is the Praziquantel (plus) component can go 6 months longer then the expire date if refrigerated. Then it starts to loses its effectiveness. The moxidectin component will last years longer then the Praziquantel. So after 6 months if refrigerated you basically have moxidectin only not moxidectin plus. Then add another few years atleast for the moxidectin component. As far as the Praziquantel becoming toxic 2.5 years after the expire date I don't know.As I have only used it upto twelve months after the expire date with no usual losses.Usually all Cydectin plus when it lands in Australia will have an expire date of about twelve months only where as the Cydectin will usually have 3 years or there abouts. This maybe a packaging requirement only and not a realistic expire date on the product.

Years ago before I used Cydectin and I was only starting out with birds. I used Ivomectin which was maybe 3 to 4 years out of date.I think my father is still using it.

If in doubt dont use it or try it on a sample lot of birds. At $14.25 for 250 ml it isnt expensive.
