Thanks for all the feedback. I know what I'm after so I think I'll adopt the approach of buying the birds as I come across them rather than going through the hall and risking them being sold out from under me.
I'm a bit like Mortisha - not real keen on the pushing and shoving but do like new experiences so looking forward to it. For those interested, I'll do a write-up of the first timers experience at a bird sale and try for some photo's.

It's crowded hot and sweaty but believe it or not it's fun!!
There's always a chance that te birds you're buying might be cheaper and/or in better condition in the next isle but unfortunately it's a risk you'll have to take, otherwise chances are you may not get either if you shop around.

Towards the end of the last singleton sale there was about 10th AFFer's standing around talking finches. Sales are a great way to catch up with friends and make new contacts.

Generally I am selling at the sale or picking up a pre arranged purchase.
We have even just taken a couple of birds not even concerned if they didn't sell just to get a decent look at what is around before the rush.
I really find it difficult when people want to buy before the sale and I know they will be selling and not have a chance to buy later.
Must admit there is alot of wink and nod prior to the start.
Sadly it is generally a rush at the start but I guess thats life because of supply and demand.
If you are after a particular bird/s it may be prudent to post that your will be at the sale and you would like to organise a purchase
and list what you are after.
I will be at Orange and already I have 4 people wanting me to take birds for them. I don't see a problem with that as you are not breaking any sale rules.
My mates and I treat Orange as a weekend away, drop the birds off on the Friday, dinner at the club. This year we are even staying on the extra night
to catch up with few other bird people. The social side of sales is excellent.

Yes, that is well within the rules of the bird sale.E Orix wrote: I will be at Orange and already I have 4 people wanting me to take birds for them. I don't see a problem with that as you are not breaking any sale rules.
Any bird that enters the hall must be checked in and paid for though. We don't want someone coming in with 5 boxes of birds that have been pre-sold and taking up room - well you can - but you need to pay for every bird.

If I read Jayburds post correctly he is going,if so stay close to him as he is like a Ferret when it comes to a quick entry to a sale.
I can't give you much info on Orange Sale now as this year it will be held in a new venue.
