I have a couple of spare budgie breeding cabinets. What other finches can be bred in these types of cages? I can attach any type of nest to these i.e. budgie box, cane basket, cup type etc.

I'm thinking about a couple of pairs of blue faced parrot finches.

Cheers

Tony

Over here in the Uk we breed nearly all the australian finches in breeding cages, makes them easier to manage and keep an eye on ;)

have successfully bred gouldians, double bars and stars in breeding cages. dont know how parrotfinches would handle being that confined, little buggers are hyperactive

I have bred both red and blue faced parrot finches in cabinets but like mick said, they really don't enjoy being confined. If you do decide to give them a try in cabinets, use a typical double breeder about 1200mm long without the centre divider. This will at least give them some flight room.

And of course they are good for breeding the various mutations of Bengalese and Zebras. If you are into these guys like I am. :D

Would the cordons be OK in these?

they would probably be ok. but cordons like their privacy so you may have to add some sort of plant ( real or fake) around any nest entrance just so they feel more secure

With the smaller finches just be sure the bars are close enough together to prevent mishaps , I had Firetails in a budgie breeding cabinet b4 mynahs dragged the hen through the bars .
