Blimey, steam shooters and flame throwers - sounds like a war zone. Maybe get some TNT or C4 and blow the whole damn aviary into outer space! Or do what I'd do - a simple clean down with soap and water followed by spraying with Virkon S.

Great ideas , so what do people do if they have a heavily planted Aviary , whats safe to use on the plants and shrubs ?

Flame throwers work wonders on the plants and shrubs
Im one of the fortunate ones living in a really dry climate so ive never really had any issues with diseases.

Sam is Virkon S a chemical ?

While I dont think I would use a flame thrower I do see steam as a more natural alternative and no where near as extreme as C4 or TNT

Virkon S is a disinfectant Deb, an alternative to F10SC. Both are safe for the animals, I use the F10 coz I can get it locally readily at a reasonable price. Don't know how it would go in heat though (ie with steam) but not sure why you'd need both methods anyway. I spray a flight with F10 every time the occupants change, I just have a an el cheapo hand pump sprayer from Bunnings, does the job fine.

Thanks for the info , it would certainly be easier to spray with either of the Virkon S or F 10 ,only problem is getting it here in no mans land .

Ill look on line and see how much it costs compared to other half bringing home the industrial steamer from work .

Is there a certain amount of time I need to wait before putting birds into an aviary using the Virkon ? This is the aviary that had the Cocci in it so I really want to have it as clean as possible before using it again .

Gomer is selling Virkon S on behalf of AFF. I just bought some last week - very well packaged and excellent price. (Thanks again gomer!)

I have some mixed up in a spray bottle most of the time so I can give anything I clean a quick spray before using with birds (1 teaspoon to 500ml). No need to wait, I spray cages with birds in them when I give them a clean out. I also mix larger quantities to spray disinfect cages for all types of animals. Also used when sprouting seed.

HI,i live in melb, east ,but like every body else have to clean the aviarys, use to use virkon s ,very good product, but was put on to a product called sanichick, you can spray it on every thing, walls floors ,the birds no need to remove them.Have had great results using this product and very cheap as well, also at bunnings there are electric paint spray guns, these are pretty cheap around $25.00 ,if you have a few aviaries this is the way to go,over and done with quicker than its taken me to write this post, hope your birds are coming good, cheers garyh.
