I've bought some coopex to spray the outside of our house, as I've seen it's reasonably safe to use around the birds etc, but I have a question as we're finding so many redbacks and other spiders in the safety doors to our aviaries...

Would it be safe to use in those areas, or not? :/ I don't want to do anything that could be a risk to the birds, but the spiders are a bit of a risk also :( :/

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Haven't used Coopex ( so cant comment)....I used any pyrethrum based fly spray....used to spray it for irradication of airsac mite n spider removal  but better things for airsac mite these days....but would still be excellant to kill spiders...

i spray coopex all over the aviaries :) i spray the walls and floor on a warm day so it dries quicker. no casualties from it.

i actually plan on spraying the aviaries and surrounding area's tomorrow.

seen a few ants, spiders etc about lately, so il spray around the outside of the house too :)

Make that two. It's essential to use with live food eaters (to keep the ants out, not to slow down the food     ).

Same I just spray one end while the birds are up the other , wait a few minutes for it to dry then do the other end . Recently had ants in a lorikeet cage that wouldnt budge so had to spray 3 days in a row , no harm to birds just dont get the food /water or the birds directly .

Hi,
whilst I can't vouch for maccas hairy armpits, I can say with confidence from a "toxicology" point of view, that the product is non-toxic (LD50 of 2000mg/kg) to birds and animals with the exception of the aquatic environment, where it is considered 'very toxic'. ie, it will kill goldfish, etc. Therfore a very low risk when used to control against spiders/insects around the home and aviary. It is 25% W/V permethrin (same as fly spray), but in the form of a wettable powder with an agent that provides for a small residual period on surfaces. It is also a non-sensitizing product, so repeated exposure is no big deal. As a general rule it often pays to just check out a product's MSDS, just to keep yourself informed about potential issues.
Hope this helps.
