Hi all
Does anyone out there make up finch seed treat bars?? Like ones you can buy from the shops but home made? Would like to try but I'm unsure what to use? I was thinking good finch seed/ honey??
If people have any ideas please add them :)
Thanks

plenty of recipes using honey or clag(flour and water) or egg whites as the binding ingredient, I find honey a bit sticky,http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/rtreats.htm (lots of different recipes), http://www.homelife.com.au/garden/outdo ... +bell,4584" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the egg white recipe),
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/b ... lls-treats" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the clag type recipe). They are fun to make especially for the kids :)

Seriously I used to make them ...the % of them working without falling apart or being too sticky is pretty low .
At $1.20 a stick I buy them from the supermarket . Its only a treat and probably has no other value other than it gives the birds something to do .

The aviary birds get the great big wild bird block evry now and then , think they rather destroy a pine cone than eat old seed glued together .

The finches have eaten the crumbles from my reject home mades but it was only as good as eating seed so no real value for them .
