Yes, my brother owns a business that supplies fish and aquarium parts along with food some being live to people with birds fish and reptiles. Went to get my order of mealies but none available. So none for this week hope next week is better and he was very surprised as this doesn't happen very often.

What usually happens is that when Pisces runs out the early birds hit other suppliers and they run out quickly and it takes time to catch up again.

The demand for Mealworms is probably greater than 20 times in the breeding season than off season and the breeders just can't cope in the peak.
To keep breeding stocks up they would have to store millions through the winter and non have the space or desire to do that.
The breeders of Mealworms have their regulars and will look after them far far better than casual buyers.
The best solution is to have your own backup breeding colony, don't feed them out then buy but buy first and then when you can't get any go to your own stock.

I do pretty much what E orix suggested , I only use my own stocks when I cant buy enough as my supplier when she runs out orders from pisces and thats usually due a break down in fridge/ heated room causing poor numbers of mealies, I try to have mine ready to go for breading season so that I have a lot of smaller mealies to feed out, plus at the end of the day I dont have to rely on mealies alone... pete

DB, that's what one of the local pet shops told me too, he reckoned that when he runs out it could be weeks before he gets any more.

It's normal for Pisces to run out this time of year, has been happening for close to 10 years.

My dilemma is, if they have enough mealworms to sell me 10 X 100 gram tubs why can't those be put into a calico bag and sold as a bulk pack?

A bulk, 1kg pack costs $38.84

10 X 100 gram tubs @ $5.97 = $59.70

So I'm paying $20.86 extra per kilo for 10 plastic tubs and their lids, that I don't want anyway, a bit steep I think.

I'll be growing as much of my own live food as I can in future, as this always happens in the most critical period of the breeding season when they are needed the most. Not to mention the added cost of weekly deliveries as "We don't know if the bulk packs will be available next week as yet"
