here here
it's been windy and rainy slop all morning here :( I've wrapped the aviary in towels and blankets to keep the floor dry and the birds out of the wind. I hadn't expected this weather until winter, by which time I would have had money for proper arrangements like plastic sheeting for the sides.

Orange bird sale was wet , windy and pretty miserable outside .
Inside was pleasantly quiet , lots of time to catch up with other bird type people .
Got my Hoodeds and Westerns in the first half hour and then browsed , browsed , browsed .
Did see a Aussie Finch Forum hat whizz past me at the door but was not to be seen again , assumed it was Mr E Orix but buggered if I know where he went , no polar bear Tshirts either (Matcho ) did get a nice big cuddle from a fella I havent seen in over 10 years , now into the large Cockies (Blacks) .

Nice lunch , nice trip home  broke but happy .

Oh I am now in love with Spinefex Pigeons and Pied Zebs

Good on you Deb,

Sounds like you had a good time.

I got up at 4 am & decided not to risk it- As peeved as I was not to go, I would have been even more annoyed if I could get as far as Bathurst but no further.

I wonder if Matcho tried to make it?

I feel sorry for the organisers- timing is everything!

Not too many from eastern NSW would have made it, although mates from Melbourne had no trouble.

Yes I made it! Left home at 6 and the road through Bathurst opened 10 minutes before we got there. Got to the show a little before 10 and it was already open. Saw some beautiful (and expensive) birds. Hookbills of every colour, shape and size. Heaps of colour mutations. Near went into sensory overload. Saw weavers for the first time. Good lookers. Didn't buy any birds, just meds, carry boxes, spray millet. My mate bought a pair of Scarlet Parrots. Very nice. Met E Orix and bought an AFF cap. Had the Polar Bear shirt on Deb. Left at Midday. All I can say is... bring on Cessnock. Except for the weather had a pleasant day. Stopped at Lake Lyell on the way home and saw the spillway in operation. The last time I saw the lake there must be 30 metres of water difference.

It was very relaxed today I thought , plenty of time to look and ask questions.

Thought some of the parrots were over priced but the high end ones were superior birds .

Shame I didnt see you Matcho , wasnt for lack of trying ...anyhoo its over with now and I need 2 more aviaries  funny how looking at the ones out the front of the sale has spurred other half into building mode once again

Sorry Ray,

Had it, but didn't use it. I was only 10 k's out when I started to kick myself. The one thing I found a little bit strange was that some birds that need a license were advertised as such "Licence required" but a couple of stalls down they were being sold without question whether licensed or not. So that begs the question.....are these "breeders" just getting rid of old stock and filling their returns as "deceased" or are they selling off stock that didn't actually ever exist (according to records?) As I said before, a good day, just wish my name was Packer or Reinhardt and could buy one of the states and you could all come and live here and live the dream.

Yes I have found that some sellers will not mention licenses unless you ask about it ....
