Yellowback Gouldian Frustration

I managed to to secure a pair of Red head Yellowback Purple front Goulidans which I was very excited about. So far they have managed two clutches and both times have let the young die on the first day They sit really well, but both lots of young have not had any seed in the crop. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been.

I moved the cock this morning into another aviary, which holds a normal gouldian hen. I know that the hen is good at rearing young, so I thought this might be a start.

Any thoughts that you have would be much appreciated.

Haven't gotten that far as of yet. What I have noticed is my cocks will breed with the hens in the open. They all are investigating and staying in the nest more often now, even the males are going in now, not doing the song and dance, and the hen doing the tail shake, then mount back, with both falling off the perch. Would like to learn more of what is happening with yours. Thanks!

Been breeding Goulds for a few years but must admit that I have never seen them doing the "thing" outside of the nest. You will hear the call of one of the pair to enter the nest where mating takes place. This is what happens with my birds. Never seen a hen doing a "tail shake" either, then again my birds must be different but do pretty good. If others have this happen then so be it. Just talking about MY birds.

Have seen the tail shake thing. That was the YB that someone missexed as a cock. No not me. If these are a young pair that did not feed I would not panic just yet. Give them another go and lots of greens when the young are due to stimulate them to feed. And feel free to cross fingers or pray or anything else that feels reassuring.

I'm having the same problem with Blues, hatching chicks don't feed them and then the chicks are dead.

I have had two pairs do this and another pair chuck the chicks out of the box, I think the problem is I'm using young inexperinced birds, but I'm not having the same problem with normals & yellows only Blues

Its probably a good move. At least you know one parent may feed and care for them. I have read it can take some birds a couple of clutches to get the idea.

I think the problem is I'm using young inexperienced birds

I feel everyone pain re babies being tossed, Ive had that happen. I moved the babies under a very young pair, neither had any experience of raising chicks but hey, any port in a storm,I would have lost the babies for sure otherwise. They took it like ducks to water and the chicks are doing very well, and thank goodness for that as one of the babies will be a RH PC YellowBlue!

all gouldian breeders have this problem i had same this year let young die or
chuck chicks out of the box, the cock is to young is one problem or a fosterd bird bred under
bengalese is anather problem same times the cock wants to mate with hen again so he chucks
chicks out, if he keeps doing it get rid of him simple as that.
