maybe they contracted something that made them ill? and wouldnt feed properly...

That could be true. When I popped the baby into the surrogate nest, it didn't beg for food. But it may have been too far gone by then.

Sorry to hear it. As has been said, sometimes mother nature (and the parents) know that something is wrong. I found a plumhead young on the floor and reared it with the 2 painteds, it was always much smaller, and eventually succumbed. Sad, but they always have a better chance being hand reared than being left on the floor! Take comfort in that much at least :thumbup:
