For me it would be the following

Looks:

1. Lizard canaries,
2. Diamond sparrows
3. Gold finches

Personality:

1.Any song canary. All canaries I have ever owned after time have learnt to respond to my voice to some degree. Some would bounce around the cage and other would sing if I talked to them or played classical Spanish music. I also like the way they bathe and build the nest.
2.Red Brows, as mentioned above I like the way they call each other and are relatively tame even in the wild
3. Zebs are pretty funny to watch

Purple Finch - must have a hell of a personality, not much of a looker.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! All birds are beautiful, and have personality as we humanise them.

You're right of course, I was just surprised that chose Purple finch for looks. I find Yellow-rumps (fairly drab brownish bird) attractive when they are feeding on growing grass heads.
