Very good to pick me up on those mistakes Buzzard-1-My apologies in advance for my terrible spelling -however in my defense it is my long nails, no spellcheck, and the fact i have a million thoughts in my head that i have to type it out otherwise i will forget what i was writing, that makes for all the bad spelling... ok well maybe it could be that i am a dumb blonde too
I think i will simply let my cats do their thing-i cant bear to clean up squashed mouse!

I once couldnt bear to kill a live mouse either - had to get hubby to do it all the time ( we use the glue traps - wont use baits as we have dogs ).
That was until i got into finches and saw a mouse sitting in the seed dish one morning of my most expensive pair !!!
Now its just a quick clock to the head with the back of an old dessertspoon whilst its stuck to the sticky trap and bye bye mousy. No blood. No guts. Swift and merciful.
Also, if baits are used and they go inside to die - the stench is horrendous for a couple weeks while it decomposes in your wall cavities or ceiling. ( learnt that the hard way, before we got dogs ! )
Oh, and the sonic repellers.........they dont work. I have tried one that emits the sonic squelch from a speaker and also one that you plug into a powerpoint and it supposedly goes through your electrical system. Neither do what they claim.

Dumb Blonde is an oximoron. = We blondes is smart not dumb. Can I add (we are also wimps who prefer to let hubbys or dogs do the killing of rodents) but can do it if we must.

I performed my first cervical dislocation the other day on a mousey mouse who had only trapped his leg in the trap..

It was quick and painless for the little guy and I didn't actually feel that bad about it!!

I had a big problem with mice and rats when I first got my aviary. I used a box trap to catch the mice, but the mice soon disappeared once the rats started getting in. The only problem with that was that the rats ate all my quails and half my finches.

I took drastic action and got all the remaining birds out, and my husband cemented the floor of the aviary, then bolted the aviary down so there were no possible gaps. Haven't had a problem since.

I spread beach sand and shell grit on the floor of the aviary, then every month or so I sweep it up and lay a new layer. I've found the floor has been much cleaner and dryer since cementing it.

Now thats a good idea. I have mouse and rat holes popping up everywhere in my parrot and canary aviary lately . Thanks for the tip!
