Craig, we have not bred the spots out of them.
This species is a Fire but not as we know it, not as we know it Jim :)

This species is rare in captivity in Europe the breeder has just informed me.

I underastand there are 3 or 4 "common" types of African fires in africa. And the Aussie african fire is a mix of those that were originally imported. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have put all the fires in a row

Lagonosticta rubricata / African firefinch

Lagonosticta nitidula / Brown firefinch

Lagonosticta rufopicta / Bar-breasted firefinch

Lagonosticta landanae / Pale-billed firefinch

Lagonosticta virata / Kulikoro firefinch

Lagonosticta sanguinodorsalis / Rock firefinch

Lagonosticta rhodopareia / Jameson's firefinch

Lagonosticta senegala senegala / Red-billed firefinch

Lagonosticta senegala ruberrima / Uganda Red-billed firefinch

Lagonosticta umbrinodorsalis / Reichenow's firefinch

Lagonosticta rara rara / Black-bellied firefinch

Lagonosticta larvata vinacea / Black-faced firefinch

The Senegal or red billed fire finch is the species kept in aviaries in Australia and New Zealand.
