Mouse traps

I just put bird seed in them. But you can use anything, peanut butter on crackers, ham or bacon works well because of the smell, apple.
If you don't catch anything for a few days, try removing the main seed container from the aviary at night just before it gets dark. And replace it first thing in the morning. Then the only food source will be the food in the trap.

Mice tend to run along the side of walls so they feel more protected. So try to have traps along the sides/ walls of the aviary.

When you catch a mouse see if it's a male or female. Males have big balls under their tail. If it's a female try to see if she has teats. She will have little bald circles around her nipples under her belly. If she has then there will be babies somewhere nearby so keep trapping to get rid of them as well.

don't use snapping traps inside the aviary. Curious birds have been killed by traps they peck at.

Don't use any traps inside an avairy unless in a small cage. I had a Star go head first into one of those that look like minature cray pots, some years back. Stupid bird there was plenty of seed in the usual place, but that that was harder to get was more appealing.

Hi Dave,
I bought one a while ago from my local seed supplier, and it works really well.
It's a sealed chamber style that has two spring loaded entrances, one at each end.
you open the hinged cover, place that bait in position and close the lid.
once the mouse enters, the door closes behind it and it becomes trapped.
Job done!
