I have the old style basic spring loaded traps and set them to go off as delicately as I can. Despite this, the mice are able to eat the smeared peanut paste without setting off the trap. I have tried other baits with the same results. Can anyone provide a link to a trap that they find works well?

Put a pumpkin seed on the trap for bait.Push it onto the teeth and it won't come off.Mice love them.

I use these wire mouse cage traps. They work on the same principle as a cray pot. You put food in the trap, mouse goes in but can't get out. Safe to have inside the aviary and if you catch a mouse you can release it in the bush or let the dogs chase it around the park.

If you intend to use it outside the aviary, there are a few different designs of this type : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SIlYiiCGLI

Starman, I like the rolling log idea, but despite having plenty of buckets lying around, none of them have an adequate diameter.
Rod L, I have ordered a couple of the traps in your link. What bait do you find is best?
