I use the no name packet mix from Coles or Woolies, either butter or Vanilla, work fine for me for finches, softbills , lorikeets, native pigeons, Majors and quail.

Went out and got 4 packets of the cheap butter cake mixes.
Mixed them and put them in the oven for 35/40min.
Except went into my bird room and 2 hours later remembered the cakes.
The birds still like the center but the crust is rather thick and tough.
Until I can access more Sarah Lee Pound cake I guess I will have bake more.
Senior moment is my excuse

I remember my Mum doing that once when we were kids, when we came back the pan was black and smoking and the boiled eggs were plastered all over the ceiling!

My cooking disasters are computor related. I put something on to cook leave it in smelling distance of "he who prefers tools" and come out to the office and do stuff on the computor. Nose twitches, OH S!@#$ rush into kitchen and turn down well crisped offerings while asking "hwpt" why didn't you turn that down couldn't you smell it?
Of course when he's away it is just bad timing.

Yup, I tried making it, left it in the oven for 2 hours!
Tried giving it it to the birds, but no luck, solid as rock. actually had to use a hammer to break it up!!!!
