Yeah nothing better than tea and cakeAMCA26 wrote:And a cup of tea or coffee.
Cheers for that i will look into it. I just bought the sarah lee brand for now and made it last night. Looking forward into seeing if the birds took to it today.E Orix wrote:I have fed Madira Cake for years, for some reason Herbert Adams cake was favoured.
When it became unavailable I then made my own using the cheap packet mixes and adding poppy seed and the shells.
These days I use Sarah Lee PLAIN POUND CAKE as I feel it is better.
The reason is that it has a high oil content and the breeding birds use it to feed their chicks in particular first light.
It also doesn't go hard but staying reasonably soft for well over a week.
Because it is hard to locate in super markets I get it from their own clearance stores.
I can buy it in cartons of 12 at around $2 each.($24c) I have a small chest freezer and load it.
To give you some idea of its popularity each year I buy inexcess of 20 cartons(240) mind you I have a number of Finches as well.
