My girls beaks all indicate breeding condition, unfortunately only half the boys are in condition and yellow back looks like he would rather sleep. Sounds like your girl is going out of condition, nothing to do with him just her hormones.

Black beaks aren't definate breeding indicator but they give u a rough idea of who's ready to go, a few of mine breed without going black or go black after the first nest.

Thanks finchbreeder I thought as much. Like I said just a beginner and don't know the history of the bird.( Rookie mistake. ) But I suspect she is an older hen and he also an older cock so will have to get another hen to match up with my younger cocks outdoors. Just having been able to find any hens this year! Will have to wait for next season I guess,

A dud or a stud ...this is the question.

It's always twice as easy at least to get a cock as it is to get a hen. Which is why one avairy has 3 pairs or Gouldians in and the other avairy has only Gouldian cocks.

Just an up date now got 7 egg in the nest had a look today when the cock bird came out .
