how can people use someone elses email account to spam people without the account owners knowledge?

I tried via facebook as Im concerned about other info on her pc ...she must be busy as no reply as yet.

Jay my other half is a bit of a computer wiz and apparantly its not a hard thing to do if you know what you're doing and if your that way inclined to do it.
Hackers make a living out of doing this type of stuff and can cover their tracks so as to make it very hard to track them down.
I had an internet friend a few years ago whos job it was to decode data and track down hackers for large companies .The friendship ended when he quoted to me the exact amount of money I had in the bank at that stage . No I never told him I even had such an account . Not good.

Standard process, download e-mail address book and mass spam, works on the odds that at least one poor idiot will fall for it.

Hopefully all fixed

If it happens to you first thing to do is try sending yourself an email, if you dont get it back check preferences in the option section of your email provider, mine had an email address as a forwarding address I have never heard of.
Appropriate authorities have been given the addresses.

well they didn't count on a forum of people who can realise they all got the same email! and who are smart enough to gather it was a spam!
