What a pain, when you've recently got the new aviary going. Not much consolation, but as others have said it happens to all of us at some stage. Once you get organised I'd be more than happy to donate a few birds if I've got what you're after.
You are NOT permitted to give up - AFF needs you!
Not exactly the welcome home I expected...

Hi jay, very sad to hear with all the loses. Don't give up this is just a speed hump and you still have a good foundation of finches to build off. The best part about restocking is that you have so many people on here to help you get what you need.

Yes that's true
I'd like to give Ruddies another go, I had them on the nest when I had to move, so never got a chance to try breeding them properly.

Hi Jayburd,
Bad luck mate but dont bail out. Firstly make sure you get that cat proofing sorted and maybe just replace the birds you need to make up pairs. I had a similar incident years ago when i left my brother in charge- 2 diamonds and about 5 or 6 pictorella hens gone. Didnt speak to him for weeks. Once you get some birds breeding you will soon bounce back. Its almost impossible to get good bird sitters and no matter how hard they try its not unusual to drop the bird while on holidays.

Thanks DB
Yes I was expecting that one or two might not make it (however much I hoped it wouldn't happen) but I didn't expect ten...
Cat proofing is next
those buggers won't get within a mile of the place
ok maybe that's an exaggeration XP

G'day Jay, mate dont give up. Instead look at what you have learnt. I know it may seem callous but you have learnt things to do to improve on your aviary design and how best to look after your birds when next away. As with any live stock you will always have deadstock and it never gets any easier. Take solace in the fact that you did all you could and you will do even more next time, you wouldnt be human if you didnt feel upset nor didnt care. If we all didnt have bad days we wouldnt be pushed outside our comfort zones and we wouldnt grow and learn. Go with the buirds yu feel comfortable in housing and breeding, you will knw when you need to move onto other challeging species. Hang in there and get back on your horse.
Cheers

Thanks Trilobite... Been busy today cleaning out the aviary... Wore myself out and now have to go deal with the massive pile of sticks brush and assorted aviary mess in the backyard
I'm considering a more foresty theme to make my jacarinis feel more comfortable... I miss seeing them they just hide all the time.
