If you follow the link to the QFS you will find their 2011 price list download. It seems there must be some success with their Red-headed finch (Aberdeens) rescue plan as they are listed at $300/pr but finding them may be the difficultly.

I would really love to find Aberdeens for $300 as per QFS 2012 book price. To me this price suggest that Aberdeens are just readily available as bluecaps but i have not found this to be the case. In reality the very very small number of breeders I have made contact with across 4 states which do have them ask for nearly 3 times the QFS listed amount when and if any become avaliable for sale.

If you are quoted @ $300, the alarm bells should start to sound

The compilation of society price lists, though well-meant, can cause more problems than they solve

With airfreight being so widely used, the only difference in the price of birds from state should be the cost of that freight

PS Some European dealers use the term 'Paradise Sparrow' for the good old Aberdeen . . . 'Sparrow' I can understand . . but 'Paradise' :shifty:

It must be very ordinary where they live.

I have seen today in the latest copy of the Queensland Bird Breeders Club October magazine and article on the Aberdeen Finch. The article was supplied by the Avicultural Society of South Australia. What I found interesting is the inference that these birds are "relatively freely available to Australian Aviculturists". Does this mean that they are available in SA. Would be interested to hear from anyone in SA whether is true as there are persons in this part of the world who would like to get them.

It might have been in the latest magazine but some magazine editors are screaming for articals so the SA artical could be years old,was it dated Craig
