Aberdeen (Red Headed) Finch - Seeking Info

Since joining the forum I have become aware of this finch. Following the initiative by the QFS to increase numbers of some finches that are getting low I am interested in possibly acquiring a pair of finches that fall into that category. My first interest was a pair of red crested finches but don't think my wife would allow me the cost of them. It would have to be a very special birthday. The Aberdeen was also mentioned but I have not seen them at shows up here or for sale anywhere e.g Petlink. Where or who has them and what is the sort of price they go for. From info gathered it seems they are like Cutthroats to deal with (as long as they are not kept together) so should do well up here. Any info would be appreciated.......!

I think there are some visual differences, photos have been posted before if I'm not mistaken.

I last had these when I was a kid in the 1970s. They must have been cheap then because I swapped them for a box of zebs. I remember breeding a few despite feeding no livefood or any other fancy stuff we use these days. Given what my backyard aviary was like then they must be tough buggers!
