Garyh, I'll be happy to explain that if you give me some time. It will take some emails to the SNGN to use their images + a lot of translation or paraphrasing from me. The standard is elaborately explained in a book published by the SNGN: 'De Gouldamadine', 319p, 2008. (Speciaalclub Natuurbroed Gouldamadine Nederland - natuurbroed means: not reared by foster parents like bengalese finches, I'm sure you will understand the other words)garyh wrote:Hi pdg, just as a matter of interest what is the SNGN standard ,thanks garyh.
The SNGN standard probably is not that different from what most Australian gouldian breeders would expect or strive their gouldians to look like. But the only Australian standard I have ever read about was in 'The Gouldian Finch' by Fidler and Evans. There are only a few criteria in there and no stress on details. Although a standard is especially usefull for breeders who want to take their birds to shows, a lot of breeders, including me, breed to that standard too. Not only because this standard is indeed 'a beautiful gouldian' , but also because it makes it a lot easier to buy and sell birds of good quality if a lot of people breed to a standard. Shows are very important here too. The SNGN ornagizes a big national show each year where you can see about 1300 of the best gouldians (mutations too) mainly from Dutch, but also from Belgian breeders. There is a standard for normals (per head colour) and for each mutation.
So, if you give me some time I'll elaborate on that standard later.
(I'm also only three weeks away from moving to Australia. So I might be too busy the coming weeks to answer your question properly.)
Promise I'll get back to you.

I enjoyed reading them all!
I often mixed couples and I often pure couplesץ
Everyone superior breed without exception
I think it's right to mix in order to increase their gene.
