West Aussies have less restrictive licensing laws, so that encourages us. Also because of distance it is sometimes easier to get on the forum and ask questions or converse than to pop over to the nearest other finch breeder who may be 100's of kms away. I for instance am between 400/500 kms from the city where the majority of finchos hang out.

Jay,
i'm only 10km from Glen and his setup is as good as the stories say they are.
his approach is professional yet he still has the passion for finches from painteds to bluecaps/weavers etc.
yes i am lucky and the birds i have purchased from him are a credit to him and his husbandry skills.
you should see how many termites he goes through......
you could also play tennis in one of his aviaries.
the wish list never gets any shorter......

Are you sure that the WA you live in is the same as I know it with regard laws and regs on keeping birds.
The amount of species you can't keep and what we can is far apart especially non Australian.
Even what birds we can freight in is not easy, seed changes etc. and permits with a shelf life of 24 hours.
I must admit the authorities over your way at least listen to you and do employ some aviculturalists in the system most of ours do not have any idea and whats worse they don't give a toss about bird welfare or working in with us.
Sorry but I would prefer over here, Wa is so far away its like flying out of the country and whats more one of your Football teams threw my side out of the finals race.
Should these posts be in another area ???????

I thought I should add, I will be with Glen on a Sth African Bird Safari.
While we will obviously see the notable animals and we will be there for around 16 days of African bird watching.
He also does have a good set up and he and his wife do a very good job of breeding the smaller finches.

I agree with orix our paper work for keeping birds is much easier but our options of what we keep is minimal compared to the east...i would love to keep a few more than we can.....pete

Wonders why this is so ...Why are there restrictions in WA ? Why do they need to know everything in triplicate here ? And EOrix is right about the authorities not giving a crap about birds welfare here ...the baby Quarrions at the market issue , seems Im the only one that cares RSPCA seems to only care about it if it has fur.
Queensland has Parrot Rescue Centres ( that cater for all birds )which are separate from the RSPCA.
