Dont know if it would work with finches but I have had a underdone Quarrion which I brought in at night and gave back to the parents during the day , of course daytime temps need to be warmish and parents need to be forgiving of human interraction .
Quarrions are probably more welcoming of humans especially mine who were hand reared but maybe it might work for finches. :?:

Might be worth a try. Judging by this last one if its left out its going to die anyway.

I put some woolly pine branches on the paver under the light and it was perched on there to begin with and then later I saw the hen feeding it inside a barrel thats laid on the side perched woolly pine branches inside the barrel, but it must have moved out of the barrel overnight.
I put the barrel in there for the quail, but they dont use it.
