Off the colour topic a bit, but whats the reason for not puting Blue to Blue? Who has done it and what is the outcome? And if you havnt done it how can you say that you shouldnt do this or you should do that with the Blue and Silvers? Not being rude just asking the question.
Now i have Blues and a Silver all will be going to Splits, but how can i say to all you other breeders that Blue to Blue etc is lethal or what ever the reason is that we cannot put them together as i have not put a pair together for a season to say yes mine are ok or i lost every single young bird that hatched. Again only asking the question so i am not after a rude reply.
As i stated earlier someone was going to put a Blue or a Pastel to a Silver Hen not sure what happened and have never asked. Breeders choice i guess. Who knows what other breeders are actually doing? To me alot of Blue breeders dont tell you anything that they are doing or what they are using etc.
Anyway back to Silvers and Pastels, what amount of these colours are the Breeders breeding?
As i have said my pairs this season are being paired to get the most of all Blue, Silver and Pastel.

Simba, i bred the Silver from a Yellow Split hen and Green Split cock. I was only lucky as the parents were to be straight PB turns out they were Split WB. As it should have been a Pastel until WB feathers were present on the chest. Lucky first season or just silly spending lots of money on birds? Lucky the wife dosent mind.

There's only a 3% chance of getting a silver from that pairing so well done, post some pics when you have chance.

I also am not suggesting that you not rise to the genetic challenge of breeding these mutation birds. Just commenting that visually many Gouldian mutations do not look like anything to rant about in comparison to the normal. There are two very different reasons for what we do. One is the genetic challenge and one is the love. Both are very worthwhile. In some birds I do it for the first reason and in all for the second. May we all continue to make our choices. And unashamedly say what we think. As long as we continue to do it in a non derogatory way. And appreciate each others perspectives. And I still appreciate and applaude the efforts everyone puts in to achieve the Gouldians I would not breed. Dedication to a cause is never a fault. And there I may get another argument.

I have breed silvers from The first splits I got Yellow splits.At this stage I agree they are a little harder to keep alive then blue.I have not breed with any silvers yet in my short time with them, as the few i breed did not make it to that stage.I have increased my genetic pool since then so will wait and see how These few young go through the moult.I also had a few blue come out late so I think they will miss the moult this year.

nice pastel blues AMCA. hmmmmm all this talk about blues silvers pastels blue nd aussie yellows is tempting me to get back into them again after 2 yrs with out them do miss the challenge

I fell in love with the Aussie Yellows during a visit to Mr Mackinespies ( Ted ) aviaries a few years ago . It was the first I had seen of them and couldn't keep my eyes of them .

Fincher you know you want to do it go on just do it .

hmmm i want to i was stupid late last year was offered bout 40 aust yellows of the 3 head colours nd a few splits for just $400 but at the time had no aviary room or i would of got them i much prefer them than the euro yellow thats for sure.

That was a good price, I have seen Aust Yellows for $100+ each.

At that price fincher you could have built aviaries for them and broke even.

Gomer, this Silver is as hard as a good GB, always on the move never seen him fluffed up or head in his back. Bloody good bird . Not sure the reason being from a Split pair of parents rather than a Split and Colour pairing.
