im assuming they were euro yellows? was dad single factor or double? ( did he have a white chest by any chance? )

seems that both parents were also split to blue.

im guessing a dfy cock split blue paired with a sfy hen split blue would only produce silvers?? ( is that right? ) correct me if im wrong...

so i guessed blujays yellow cock was a sfy with a white chest giving the yellow back look, so the dad threw a green gene as well as a blue and mum threw her only yellow gene and the blue gene? to produce this sfy blue cock bird...

sound kinda right????

Thanks for the info,Misso & Tiaris, genetics, wow, haven't had to think that hard since "Genetics of The Dog," by Malcom Willis

Breeder, I bought the parents from, stated, when I inquired, said they do not deal with splits, as people say they are "normals." So I will sell them to you as you see them. Thought they were beautiful and bought four pairs. Parents do have white breast. Thanks again!

If your baby is an AY, Clarissa, I can only hope to get one soon!

Are they the only Gouldians in the aviary? Both parents with white breast producing purple breasted anything says another parent is in the mix to me.
BluJay

Unless one parent is AY split blue (most likely the cock) & the other is SFYBWB split blue (most likely the hen) then this would explain the purple chest & the fact that a SF pastel blue coming out of 2 yellow gouldians with white breast. In that case you would definitely have a Single-factor Pastel blue Black-headed male split to Australian Yellow. Or in layman's terms a Gouldian finch with a seriously mixed up mutant genotype.

Oh, so she is purple breasted. That being the case I still believe the cock would have to be an Australian Yellow as if it was a DF YB their young males could not be single factors which this bird is. My head is spinning & I do understand this stuff.

can any one wonder, why, I am confused!!!!!1  I am trying, really, really trying!

I was really surprised when this little one popped out of the nest box. I don't check boxes, just let them do their thing. Love watching them get the swamp grass and take it to the hole in the box, and roll me over - tickle me pink - when the grass falls out of the hole and they fly after it!
