It was a long time ago, when my daughter was quite young we had a holiday on Jersey so probably about 1978.
He relied on a lot of sponsorship of animals, but as an individual he did more than most.

he sure did
read just about all his books and I have more than 3/4 of them, I;m pretty sure, always collecting more though
nothing has ever made me laugh more than his book 'three singles to adventure' (a true story about his collecting trip to Guiana, Brazil etc. and especially a small town known as Adventure
)

Seriously, I'm surprised ANYONE younger than me has heard of Gerald Durrell.

I'm a big fan of The Bafut Beagles myself.

I went to Jersey Zoo, AKA the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust last year and spent 3 weeks there on the Endangered Species Recovery course. Jealous much?

Anyway, as for the footage from The Life of Birds, I have studied it closely and have come to the conclusion that the glow you see was 'painted on' in post production and not as a result of any special lighting. Sorry to disappoint.
PS. Jay, PM me your list of Durrell titles. I have a few doubles which might just be ones you need.

Loved "my family and other animals" strange upbringing, but it made him who he is. (before that I had though we were a little eccentric)
