Re: Air freighting birds

I was told that birds I sent to another island up here could not be freighted with food or water but I made the company attach easily removable dispensers so that the airline could decide. When I visited the consignee over Christmas I saw the transport cage with the dispensers still taped in place so don't believe everything you are told.
I looked on the IATA site and they don't show you their regs governing air transport of birds - you have to buy the manual for $175. Fortunately they say their standard meets the CITES requirements and these are available (CITES Transport Guidelines). As you will see on page 42, birds must be provided with food and water. As has been pointed out with WA quarantine requirement seed has to be removed and destroyed upon receipt, so the IATA LAR is not the end of the issue.
