I have 2 finches (out of 30) in a large otudoor aviary that have slightly drooped wings (like in a heat stress position) with the wings giving a slight "shiver" its definitely not too hot for them). I am really overdue for worming and would like to do it as soon as possible but I can hear chicks somewhere in the aviary, way up in the bush I think. Is it safe for me to worm with Moxidectin plus with chicks in the nest? I couldnt find this advice on the web. I understand that the drooped wing-shiver may be a worm/tapeworm issue but I dont know for sure. I have fully roofed aviaries but there are heaps of ants around which could be the source. I frequently coopex the outside of the aviary but the effectiveness is lost when it rains. I would sincerely appreciate any advice as to whether it is safe to worm all of my birds.

G'day Kenny, If you think two birds have worms, the whole lot would have them.I use moxy plus also and havn't had any problems losing young in the nest after worming them for 3 days. You mention using coopex outside your aviary, that would be awaste of time and money.Coopex is very safe to use inside your aviary but remove or cover up all sources of food whilst spraying. You can even spray your birds and inside nest boxes with it with out any harm, being residual it can last for months cheers Craig

I made a post about this in another topic

I use moxidectin and I rang and checked with the people at Australian pigeon and they said the young should be feeding themselves before worming.

Having said that I have accidentally dosed a cock bird that was feeding young, the young were ten days old at the time. Everything was ok.....I suffered though, worried until they fledged

Thanks Craig-not sure if I do but I need to worm them anyway-trouble is I seem to be having babies on a regular basis. I really appreciate your advice.

Thanks
