Welcome to the forum. Are you breeding normal Gouldians? And do you have a headcolour preference?

Hello Finch Addict, thanks for comment.

I don't have a preference as such, but as it turns out my 18 gouldians that I have just reared have mostly turned to red head. I started off with cock grey head with pb, hen red head pb and other pair cock bh wb and hen bh wb.

What type of finches do you have?

Cheers, Suzi

By coincidence I also raised 18 Gouldian chicks this season. (after a couple of early losses) 17 yellow/orange heads and 1 redhead. Sexes half and half. 1 pair being responsible for 13 of them. Nests of 5,3,5. Also had a good year with the Javas who raised 9 chicks over 3 nests.

Well done with 18 also! Do you mix the Gouldians and Javas? I am not too familiar with the Javas, not sure of their temperament etc I find the Gouldians quite a good temperament, even to the point of when in the aviary they aren't freaking out, I guess they get to know you. I know this sounds funny, but I make sure I wear a light coloured shirt in the aviary so they don't think I am some big threat! Do you do this also?

Have had Gouldians and Javas in the same avairy in the past. But this season I had them in different avairys and both did better. No idea if it was relavant or not. Wear alsorts into the avairy. Light, dark, plain, patterned. Have not noticed any of my birds freaking when I enter after they have settled in. Maybe I radiate peace and tranquillity. :lolno: I do try not to go in and out unnecessarilly.
