Hi all,
Just thought I'd share with you some quick pictures of a couple of new finches :D
Got this lovely pair of Longtails (YB) and a very nice pair of Painteds thanks to SamDavis. The longtails confirmed themselves as a pair by one singing on the first day :) he's been singing almost ever since!

And this gorgeous girl from Mattymeishke along with a cat trap  can't wait to catch that sucker. went out to do them thismorning and there he was sitting bold as brass right next to the aviary. needless to say I set the dog on him (slow 9yr old beagle vs. young agile cat = not much contest) and he made it over the fence at a leisurely pace.

Thanks again! to Matt and Sam :D :D :D :D

Jay, one crowing / singing only does make the other a hen I'm afraid. We've had subordinate males never sing multiple times before. Separate the birds, each on it's own and observe behaviour, that way you're more likely to get the other to sing if it is male. Anyway, all the best with the new birds.

Jay, I'm confident they're a pair. Hopefully it's the one with the ring that's singing. If so then I'd put money on them being a pair.
Hope you catch the cat soon...

Wont hurt to separate them until your aviary's de-catted. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
