have not posted anything for a while so here goes, i have had to sell all my birds as we are moving interstate, thanks to Peter Salisbury for helping me out. I will have finches again one day when we get settled at Glen Innes in the cold (suggestions on good cold climate finches please) i have taken my aviary apart and turned the base into a vegie garden, looks pretty good!

Also very proud of my article in QLD finch news about Mr Fox, what a guy, sad to lose a great character like him.

Hoping to get in touch with Graham Bull near Coffs Harbour when it comes time to buy again, also westfinch at tamworth may be getting a visit.

anyone else have suggestions of who to visit in the new england area of NSW?????

THANKS TO THE FORUM for all your help and advice i will keep up to date every now and then even though i have no birds...... :(

All the best with the move. Did you sell your aviary as well as the birds?

no the aviary is coming with me, as it is able to be taken apart and flat packed, plus it cost me too much to let go, we have also taken our spa!

Good call, will make it so much easier for your re entry into finches....and home spa-ing too! If you sold them you wouldn't get good value for them and probably never replace them a the new home.

Gday Benrayjay,
good luck with the move to glen innes, summers are beautiful but winters are something else.... i can only suggest fully roofed and solid walls. even one like poohbear from the uk has.....yes it gets that cold/miserable in glen innes.
sleet/snow most winters and down to minus 10 not out of the question with some waterpipe-cracking frosts.

any finches that you consider must be made of strong stuff, goldfinches etc may be the go, even weavers.
i would imagine painteds, gouldians etc would be just plain miserable during winter unless housed in enclosed lodgings.

you are welcome to visit my humble aviaries in Tamworth if you wish on your way past to the westfinch establishment.
congrats on the article in the qfs.
enjoy getting re-established, its always a good opportunity to improve housing and management for our birds.
