Hi

A friend has a pair of tri-coloured parrot finches who appear to be quite happily going to nest but once a couple of eggs are laid, the eggs can be found the next morning on the aviary floor pecked open. She's tried to eliminate all possibilities; removing other breeds, mouse proofing, diet, but still the same result...eggs with holes in them.

Anyone had this happen to them? Or can anyone offer advice, suggestions? She's just about given up on them.

Thanks

I breed a few of these every year with no incidents, so
Are you feeding a very high protein diet? Sometimes this can drive a male bird to push the hen hard and he can remove eggs and even hatchlings if he wound up too tight.
Perhaps cut back on soft foods and access to live foods for while if possible other wise my suggestion would to be to remove the male and replace him. If the problem persits try another pair or another Hen. Egg eating can be very habit forming for some birds and is nto an easy habit to break.

I would agree, try mouse proofing the nesting areas if you cant keep them out.

Make fake eggs out of plaster of paris and replace them as they are laid.
When you have 4 replace them and see what happens.

All good advice, I'll pass on all suggestions.
