I found a huntsman spider in the aviary today. Is this spider harmful to the finches (parrot finches and gouldians)?
In other words do I need to "nuke it"!!

I have the odd one in my cages, counting the legs I think the spider is the one at risk

I try to introduce them to shoe leather when I see them on the basis that if they are big enough to cause a shiver down my spine then they might do the same for the birds.

I've had em in the aviaries for ages, never a worry for me, so I'll go against the trend and say leave it be :D

Caught one 2 weeks ago in the backyard, span as large as my hand, wouldn't want it to camp in a nest box with baby birds because I know it would get fatter and scare the bejesus out of the parents. I agree, either nuke it or catch it and see if the local primary school will take it of your hands for their little fish tank thingies where kids watch them and keep them as so called "pets". Otherwise, bring it inside, they will keep the mozzies down, watch them run over the wall chasing moths and mozzies, but I guarantee you will sleep with one eye open.

Perfectly happy to have them in the house but not the avairys. Not all us women are scared of spiders.
