I will post some more pics in a few days, i sent them from work and some didnt make the journey
The enclosure has held Egernia Slateri (Slaters Skinks) for about 18 months and has been really successful with the skinks breeding recently. Jochem, our former reptile keeper gets most fo the credit for the effort he put in.
Slaters Skinks are disappearing as Buffel Grass moves in . The Skinks dig burrows at the base of Eremophilas (little shrubs), generally in fairly sparse surroundings, as the Buffel moves in the skinks struggle to dash out of the burrows and snatch prey. They dont like to venture too far from the burrow and Buffel is basically blocking the view they have of their hunting pad. More pics to follow but you can google the Skinks if interested.
Cheers
Jim

We needed something quite substantial as there will be several trials done on the skinks. Cameras will be mounted on the cage to see what they get up to, different artificial burrows will be trialed and i believe some Buffel Grass will be grown to see the effects it has on the skinks.

Yep thats me. Probably pointing out that the concrete is meant to be between the frames not all over the landscape. It was my first project at the Park and perhaps i should have stuffed it up. Might not be so busy now.
More funding has become available and we should have another enclosure built soon. Its been a good project to be involved in ( i just weld stuff ) and im confident that the trials will make a difference to the long term outcomes for the little skinks. Cattle stomp the burrows and the big wet also washed out one site to the west of Alice so they`re up against a bit.
There is a uni in Adelaide involved, Aboriginal rangers, Arid Zone Research and the Park ,so its good to see different groups being involved and so far so good.
