who said gouldians are weak

HI All,

At the moment i have about 25 young in the nest and about another 10 fertile eggs....so a good start by my standards....thats from 8 breeding pairs of the 14 pairs i am running in 2012

Today the 35+ meter tree in my neighbours yard (2 meters away from my avairy) was being taken down (diseased and at risk of falling)...so chainsaws going all day....at first the birds were a little freaked out....and I was fearful they would all abandon their nests....so I decided to drop their plastic blinds 3/4 of the way to try and block out some of the noise...and kept giving them fresh thistle and seedling grass all day....well by lunch time they seem to have adjusted to the noise as therr was plenty of feeding activity whilst the tree loppers were having their lunch.....so hopefully they will cope just as well tomorrow when the tree loppers return and finish off the job...

And my birds will be very greatful in the long run as my avairy will finally get some afternoon sun during Autumn/Winter....yeah!!!

So to those who have suggested that I think Gouldinas and/or their mutations are weak....here is my story backing up my theory that in the right conditions with good nutrition they are tough little soldiers.

Sounds like you have some tough and determined gouldians there Paul. Good luck hope they keep this attitude up and you'll have a good season.

Mum had developers clearing the block next door. Bobcat smashing brick paving and tank stands up, knocking over a tin shed etc. Then a couple of days later her handyman brushcutter to the forest of Guinea grass that had taken over the yard, right up to the avairy wire. Not even a single Gouldian seemed to get upset, neverloan panic. Only losses over the entire week of noise and chaos were 2 budgies. One apparently paniced and broke his neck another was flapping arround on the ground not able to fly having done some damage. Finches rule, hookbeaks
