Wow, it is amazing how fast things travel! However, I would like to reslove something here
I inquired, has the Gouldian Finch been cross bred to a Canary. I had purchased a yellow
hen, supposedly split for Australian yellow, that so strongly resembles a Canary. Simple,
question. Period. It is amazing what can be done with a pipette.

Now, I rekindled my gouldian fancy, by purchasing two normal cocks, at a market. Then seen
photo's of the yellow. In tracking them down and purchasing, I learn of "Mike Fidler," his
products and If I do what these people tell me I will be as good as them."

Interestly, when I advised them, where I purchased my first birds from, the alledged "Mike Fidler"
people, whom I purchased birds from, stated I should be careful buying birds from the first
person I purchased from. However, AFTER, spenting several hundred American Dollars(note:
the American dollar is down, and international fees, and bank charges.) These people had to
pick the birds up and look at their feet, reason, unbeknown to me, that is until I got them
home and could not understand, why they were having difficulty sitting on the perch. I caught
one of them and yelled to my husband to come look at them, the bird feces was so thick and hardend on
four them that I had to scrape it off of them, by holding them under warm water to soften it
and use thumb nail to slowly scrape, until the feet were clean. Stayed up all night - worried
that I may have gotten them to wet! Then they have the nerve to tell me to watch out
for the first breeder!

Three normal rhpb cocks were supposed to be split for Astralian Yellows, as well as, yhwb cock
and the yellow hen I feel looks like a Canary that prompted my question.

Also, while I was there they checked the feet of rhwb cock, suddenly had toe missing
and was "put down." As was another that just sat on the bottom. Right now, I am so totally
taken back by some comments towards my questions....... well I don't think I really want the
birds anymore!

There will always be good and bad people in any hobby. Just remember the good outweigh the bad. And the fact that you immediately did the right thing for your little birds in cleaning their feet means by keeping them you can help to increase the number of good people in the hobby. Please do not take the negative responses to x breading to heart. Those of us who are negative to it are so for the birds sake. We do not mean to be harsh, but sometimes get a little heated. Because we care. And so obviously do you, so please stay with the birds and us.

Your profile says, "Newcastle". Do you mean Australia, or a number of "newcastles" in Texas, Oklahoma, California plus others in the "Good Ole USA". An honest reply would be appreciated, and if its in NSW Australia, I would be privileged to come and see your set up which you have shown on this forum when I'm up that way, that is if you don't have any objections after all, I'm only 2 hours away and don't mind driving.

@Finchbreeder, thank you for your kind response. A remark that was made in another post, regarding the canary question really turned me into one nerve and the response was all over it! I honestly believe, and personally, follow what my breeders have to say. We used to drive an hour one way to purchase a kilo of seed from the breeder. Not so certain if a bird's digestive system can become out of balance by suddenly changing diet or not. I slowly, switched diets by mixing half and half and reducing the amount of the old.
Most of my questions are based on knowledge of how things are done in the states, as well as, some of my responses to some topics. Just want to balance or transpose from states to Australia way. Keep in mind, in the states or it least where I am from, aviaries are strictly prohibited in most cities. So we have to keep secret what we do, and some things are, if you will, all about conditions any animal is kept.

A remark that was made in another post, regarding the canary question really turned me into one nerve and the response was all over it!

BlueJay you will find Aussie's will call a spade a spade on what they believe is right with the information they have at hand. You will also find that if they are wrong they will also admit it (mostly).There are posts on here that I totally disagree with and choose not to comment as people are entitled to their own opinion, It is when people try to force their belief onto others I arc up. To give up is your choice but I think you will find you will miss out on a very enjoyable rewarding experience. I have been breeding finch and parrots for many years now and have been scammed on several occasions am I bitter, no unhappy, yes, wan't to give up no. I have had more heartache through my own doing ,I had a bull rat wipe out an entire aviary of Diamonds because I neglected to investigate where a few missing birds went for example, another was ants wiped out every hatchling in every nest due to my negligence. I learned from the losses and I'm far more diligent now no matter how busy I am with other things.

Oh dear ..I have "I give up days " quite often .

If you give up then thats how it is by not giving up it is confirmation that the aviculture bug has you by the short and curlies ...

Oh also yes us aussies can be a bit "different" some more than others ...just follow my lead mate as Im about the most "normal" one here
