Hi All, just wanting to know if two double bar males could safely go in the same cage as two Orange Breasted males? Or would the double bars pick on and kill such a small finch ???
Pet shop has some and i asked my hubby to maybe buy them for my birthday ? But no point if i cant put them in with my two OBs.

Both are very placid finches...I have kept them and others in a community aviary with no problems what so ever..even in full breeding season never seen any squabbles..

I too have had them avairy sharing with no problems. Go for it they are both sweet and placid little finches. But do remember that Double bars are also very active. So I hope your cage is a reasonable size.

They are also the Early Warning System in my aviary. Before getting the DB's I could get close to the aviary before the birds would take off, but the minute I get within a cooee of the aviary the DBs start their "phwe phweeee, phwe phweeee" and the others stand stock still and then take off for the highest perches. Only happens in the aviary with the DB's and sometimes the one closest to it. The other aviaries I can get right up to the wire.

:eureka: Might be an ideal bird for an aviary as an EWS

So I went and bought the DB's - Delightful little things ! Unique sound. Very flighty though.
An observation ? Every night they both camp together in the seed dish while the OB's roost on a perch !!!

double bars use roosting nests, so maybe a nestbox or basket would be a good idea

DBs will all huddle in the same nest usually, in the wild an effective way of trapping them is to simply put your hand over the entrance to a roosting nest... I seem to remember Kingston stating that when he did that when he was young, he sometime caught up to 12 birds In a single nest!!
Doule bars are very communal birds, much like saint Helena's, Zebs, red brows etc. so will stick together no matter the gender.
